What is IgA nephropathy?

IgA nephropathy is a chronic autoimmune glomerulonephritis characterized by the deposition of antibodies to a protein called IgA in the glomeruli of the kidney, the structures that are the first step in filtering blood to from urine. It is the most common cause of primary glomerulonephritis.
