What is Cushing's syndrome?

Cushing’s syndrome is a hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure of the body’s tissues to high levels of the hormone cortisol. The most common cause of the syndrome is Cushing's disease which is due to excess production of the hormone ACTH by the pituitary gland.
