What is pityriasis rosea?

Pityriasis rosea is a common skin rash. It looks like a pink-rose-colored scaly patch. In darker skin, the color varies from violet to dark gray.The first patch is large, and then a couple weeks later, smaller patches appear. This rash usually disappears on its own without treatment.
