What is typhus?

Typhus is a bacterial disease caused by Rickettsia typhi or Rickettsia prowazekii. Symptoms can include abdominal pain, rash, high fever, joint pain, etc. Treatment includes doxycycline and tetracycline. Endemic typhus has a high mortality rate without treatment while murine typhus does not.
