What is tuberculosis?

Tuberculosis is a chronic, progressive infection with a period of latency following initial infection. Although it occurs most commonly in the lungs it may occur in almost any organ system in the body, including the lymph nodes, bones/joints, gastrointestinal tract, pericardium, eyes, and skin.
