Polyarteritis nodosa is an autoimmune systemic inflammatory vasculitis, it is a disease of unknown cause that results in an inflammation to arteries, the blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood to organs and tissues. It occurs when certain immune cells attack the affected arteries.
