Food allergy

What is food allergy?

Food allergies develop when the body's immune system has an abnormal reaction to one or more proteins in a food. Most reactions are from peanut, tree nuts, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, wheat, and soy. Approximately 6 to 8% of children under age 5 and 3 to 4% of adults have a true food allergy.
