What is compartment syndrome?

Compartment syndrome occurs when pressure within the muscles builds it can lead to compression of nerves, blood vessels, and muscle inside a closed space. The increased pressure can decrease blood flow and inhibit oxygen from reaching nerve and muscle cells.
