What is chilblains?

Chilblains are painful inflammations of small blood vessels in the skin occurring as a result of exposure to cold. Symptoms include itching, swelling, burning, and occasional ulceration. It usually gets better on it's own in a couple of weeks but may happen repeatedly with exposure to cold.
