What is adrenal exhaustion?

Adrenal fatigue is a term used to describe a state in which the adrenal glands are not providing adequate quantities of hormones, primarily cortisol. Adrenal exhaustion is the worsening state of adrenal fatigue in which the adrenal glands can not maintain an adequate output of steroid hormones.
