What is restrictive lung disease?

Restrictive lung disease is a category of respiratory conditions that restrict lung expansion due to damage caused by disease or external factors. Restrictive lung disease results in decreased lung volume and makes the work of breathing more difficult impacting adequate ventilation and oxygenation.
