What is glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency?
Glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase(G6PD) deficiency is an inherited (genetic) condition in which the red blood cells breakdown (hemolysis) in reaction to stress, infections, certain drugs, and certain foods. The body does not have enough G6PD enzyme to support proper red blood cell functions.
